GRIN’s Purpose
The Green Roof Infrastructure Network and its members are dedicated to promoting green roofs and green infrastructure as critical components of healthy cities and to supporting the market and industry in BC. To achieve its goals, GRIN has adopted the following purposes:
- 1. Nurture and unite individuals across BC to champion the widespread implementation of green roofs (GR) and green infrastructure (GI) in their communities;
- 2. Guide the development of appropriate policies for GR and GI in BC;
- 3. Inspire vision and mobilize momentum to co-create a healthy, resilient and food secure future via GR and GI;
- 4. Communicate/ interpret/ consolidate/ develop technical, scientific and pragmatic literature on the planning, design and maintenance of GR/GI;
- 5. Educate policy-makers, building owners, developers, designers, the public about GR/ GI;
- 6. Provide expertise and resources to GR/ GI practitioners running external programs to restore the hydrological cycle and help BC adapt to climate breakdown, especially flooding, heat, wildfires, energy conservation/ generation.
- 7. Lead activities including but not limited to: education and outreach, citizen science, field trips and excursions, professional symposia;
- 8. Advise municipal, provincial and federal gov’ts on supportive policies, laws, best practices, guidelines for on GR and GI in BC;
- 9. Attract a diverse group of experts, industry, and general enthusiasts to membership and engagement with GR and GI across BC;
- 10. Engage with the pressing issues of our time, including circular economy, sustainable materials, etc.
- 11. Anticipate climate-/biodiversity-related issues that GR and GI can mitigate.
